Video Response with regards to video responding to Rupert’s post… http://twittervlog.tv/?p=229
I'm a good ole Canadian Boy that vlogs (video blogs) moments in my life. The premise is that when I'm really old and forget how to feed myself, I can still look back and remember.
Variety! Perhaps I'll just gab about my day, or perhaps we'll talk about family, sports or whatever. I also have an artistic side, I like to experiment with different methods or points of view.
You'll find a little of everything here.

It’s a great idea Mike. I’ve tried in the past to get a messageboard going without any success. Sadly not many people were open to the idea.
I think for it to work, we really need the support of the vlogging “old guard”. When they get behind a project, it just works.
Kyte.TV is a free service that does this video/audio/text response very well, plus a way to publish video, photos, etc.. Even accessible by cellphone to view and publish.

I agree Mike. The problem was the vlogging old guard were the ones that werent open to the idea. I dunno? Maybe we just make it and promote it as much as possible? I’d be more than happy to put something together.
Hey John,
I took a look, and nah, that’s not what I’m after.
I’m very happy with Blip and how the folks at ShowInTheBox have integrated with WordPress.
It looks fun and all, Kyke.tv, but it just doesn’t hit home.
It’d be great to have an ACTIVE message forum with the ability to link to videos here or other vlogs. And David, in this instance, I’m not sure “If we build it, they will come”. I’d hope so… but just not convinced yet.
I couldn’t agree more.
I have so many of your videos (and a lot of other people’s) to catch up on. Glad you’re keeping on keeping on.
The problem is, everyone always talks about the problems. Like this.
And the real problem is the technology. It’s rubbish.
I put a lot of thought into this over the summer, while I was away, and I just couldn’t find anything that worked.
It was prompted by Verdi posting a link to a video file on Twittervlog, which played in a pop up box because of the VPiP plugin. That was unexpected, and got everybody thinking about video comments again. The lightweight nature of video links in a comments thread worked well. You could mix text and comments.
All the vlogging ‘old guard’ were into the idea of video comments.
But the old law of ‘good enough’ works for the Yahoo group.
It’s sad that it’s old technology. But it’s even sadder that there still isn’t a robust enough new forum to do what we want to do. I wish I had the power to build it myself.
The Ning group was great. But still limited. It served a purpose for the month - but it’s so MANUAL that I think use would tail off soon with regular use.
Seesmic is fun. But a total walled garden, with bullshit Flash technology. Maybe I should’ve used that just now.
I just tried for 10 minutes, at 1 o clock in the morning, to easily record a video reply to you. I plugged in my webcam, went to Blip, used their Record feature - it only works on Safari on Mac. So I used that. Then it wouldn’t let me change the settings, and showed only a tiny corner of what the webcam saw, so I had to guess where I was pointing it. Then when it finished, the sound was screwed. So I tried Youtube. No preview capability, no ability to start again if you fluff. You record, and it saves to your account - after a few minutes of processing. Then it’s there on horrible hater-filled Youtube. Not where I want my comments to be. So I tried Vimeo - no webcam record facility that I could see.
And so on and so on.
And so I get out my camera - record the file, transfer to computer, upload to blip, wait for flash transcode, copy that URL manually to your blog post? No thanks.
Let’s put our minds to it some more and play with something. A Ning Group? What do you have in mind, David? You’ve been thinking about it for a while, i know.
Seesmic is cracking video conversations, to an extent. But it’s missing out a bunch of stuff, including RSS and text and manageable threads. It’s like a Twitter stream of video drivel. No links, no thanks.
You should have the Subscribe to Comments plugin here, for email notifications of comments
I would use phpBB. Install it on a server and away we go.
People could either embed their video in a post or post a link. People could then reply in a threaded fashion to the original post with a video or with text. It has RSS and email notifications as well.
I am pretty sure that with all the arguments I have heard against a messageboard that people have never actually used one. If you did, you would know all that it could do.
Enough of this. I am sick and tired of trying to convince everyone how great an idea this is. I’m just going to build it. I’ll let people know once it’s done and where it is.
I’m in. Let me know if I can help.
Woot!
